About this survey
Researchers from the Collaborative Research Center “Future rural Africa” are collaborating with their partners from, the University of Gondar (Ethiopia), Kabale University and Apata Insights (Uganda), University of Bonn (Germany), the University of New South Wales (Australia), Ruhr university Bochum (Germany) and Leiden University (Netherlands) to investigate willingness to pay for a prospective COVID-19 vaccine in Africa. For this purpose, you are being approached to respond to this survey. You must be 18 years and above to participate.
The survey should take less than 15 minutes to complete. You will be asked to record demographic information (age, gender, education level, and occupation). The survey will then assess how COVID-19 has affected your livelihood (income), your level of trust in the health system in your country and how you assess your health at present. The survey then assess your willingness to pay for a prospective COVID-19 vaccine, if it was available on the local market among others.
The survey is provided in five languages i.e English, Swahili, Amharic, Afaan Oromoo and Kinyarwanda. You are welcome to respond in the language of your convenience. Please read the questions carefully and respond honestly.
Before you start the survey, you should know that your participation is voluntary. You can stop at any time without even saving your data. If you want to know more about the survey before you start, you can direct your questions by email to Dr Emmanuel Rukundo or Bisrat Gebrekidan .
We appreciate constraints of time and data on your part so we would like to give something back. We would like to give ten randomly drawn numbers an opportunity to win airtime or data worth up to $10 per number. If you want to participate in this raffle to stand a chance of winning, at end of the survey, you will be asked to provide your phone number. After the raffle and drawing the winners, you will be contacted to receive the prize. All phone numbers will then be deleted and will not be used to any other purpose whatsoever. The phone number will also be encrypted in line with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) of the European Union.
The project has received ethical clearance from the “Center for Development Research Research Ethics Committee at the University of Bonn”.
None of the researchers or their institutions are involved in any COVID-19 vaccine development activities. The researchers do not work and have not received funding from any company associated with COVID-19 vaccine. This activity is purely for research purposes and does not have any bearing on ongoing COVID-19 vaccine initiatives. The views that will be expressed in the publications out of the research will be solely of the authors and do not represent their institutions.
